The motocross community is mourning the tragic loss of Aidan Zingg, a promising young talent who passed away at just 16 years old after a crash during the Mammoth Mountain MX event in Mammoth Lakes, California.
Zingg, a rising star who had recently signed with Kawasaki’s prestigious Team Green program, was competing in a 250cc B class race when the fatal accident occurred. According to reports from Dirtbikelover.com, Aidan “went down in a corner” and was subsequently run over by other riders.
Born and raised in Hemet before his family relocated to Washington State, Aidan quickly made a name for himself in the motocross world. He was the 2024 American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) Amateur National Champion in the Supermini 2 class, a title he earned at the famed Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Tennessee. Notably, this was his seventh consecutive qualification for the AMA championships — a testament to his skill and dedication.
Aidan’s sister, Alex Zingg, 18, shared a touching tribute to her brother on Instagram, expressing the deep void left by his passing. “It’s been a day and I feel like it’s been a lifetime,” she wrote. “My heart is completely broken. You used to joke that I was so old and that I’d die first, I would always joke that you were crazy and you’d be the first. Now I’m sitting here wishing with everything that I am that you were right so I’d never have to live a day without you.”
From his early days racing in elementary school, Aidan dominated various classes — 65cc, 85cc, and Supermini — and had earned a reputation as a fierce competitor with an infectious passion for the sport. After joining Kawasaki’s Team Green, he continued to impress in the 250cc class, also securing sponsorships from Oakley, Bell, and Renthal.
Kawasaki Racing took to social media to honor Aidan’s memory, stating, “It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of Kawasaki Team Green rider Aidan Zingg. Zingg’s dedication and kind demeanor will forever be remembered.”
Motocross journalist Donn Maeda also shared heartfelt memories of Aidan, recalling his early days as a confident but humble racer. “He was one of those kids that made an impression on you from the moment you met him,” Maeda wrote. “I interviewed him years ago when he was on a 65 and asked how long until he’d beat his dad [former racer Robert Zingg]. He smirked and said, ‘Soon, I’m sure.’ Even as he grew into a fast big bike rider, when teens usually get cocky, Aidan always stayed respectful and kind.”
Aidan’s final social media post, made just 10 days before the accident, featured a striking racing photo shared with MotoSport.com and a bold caption: “Remember the name… @aidanzingg.”
His untimely death is a devastating loss to the motocross family, but his legacy of talent, kindness, and passion will continue to inspire riders and fans alike.
