Engine Specifications

A-T-S 100 (1963-1964)

After Ferrari’s turbulent 1962 season, engineers led by Carlo Chiti founded ATS. Funded by Bolivian magnate Jaime Ortiz Patino, they created a new V8 engine that ruined drivers Phil Hill and Giancarlo Baghetti’s careers.

The 1.5L V8 was theoretically competitive but proved unreliable. Engine changes required cutting chassis tubes, leading to frequent failures.

Configuration: V8

Displacement: ~1,500 cm³

Power: 188 hp @ 10,100 rpm

Bore/Stroke: 66mm × 54.66mm

Teams: A-T-S

A-T-S 2.7 (1967)

Configuration: V8

Displacement: 2,700 cm³

Teams: Cooper

Technical Legacy

ATS engines were designed by ex-Ferrari technical director Carlo Chiti. Despite promising specifications, the V8’s poor reliability and impractical design (requiring chassis modification for engine changes) doomed the project after just three seasons.
