After rejections from Mercedes and Supertec, Prost turned to Ferrari as their last hope. Sponsor Acer funded the engine rebranding to gain visibility.

The Acer-badged Ferrari engine was significantly better than Prost’s previous Peugeot units but received no development updates during the season.
