Helmut Marko has revealed that Red Bull used the wrong rear wing at the Las Vegas GP in 2024, a mistake that may prove to be very expensive and might ruin their weekend. The reigning title holders are now facing huge straight-line speed issues.
Max Verstappen finished the second Free Practice session on Friday in 17th position, while Sergio Perez even placed behind him in 19th position. The whole team was two seconds slower than the expected time in this round.
‘GPS data indicates Red Bull is seven km/h slow than Mercedes and McLaren, and other sources say the back markers even have a 10 km/h gap to the frontrunners’ – especially Autosport wrote.
“We don’t have another rear wing,” Marko said, as per Autosport. “A smaller rear wing, as we see it on our competitors. It would be more helpful, for sure.”
Marko added: “Tomorrow is a different day. You maybe saw it a lot of times. People will be fastest on Friday or Thursday, but it doesn’t mean that they are fast in the race. We will make a reasonable step.”
